2011 WSOP – Polychronopoulos wins $1,500 NL Holdem Event

Day 32 of the 2011 WSOP hosted the Ladies’ $1k NL Holdem Championship. The true highlight of the day was the $1,500 NL Holdem event though, which played down to a winner: Athanasios Polychronopoulos was the one who picked up the bling.
Four players returned to the tables of the $1,500 event on the final day of action. Polychronopoulos had the chip lead, but he had to fight his way through Yevgeniy Timoshenko to get to the title. Timoshenko – even though his name is a household one for railbird everywhere – is yet to score a WSOP bracelet, and this looked like the perfect opportunity for him. He started second in chips, so his odds were decent, but Lady Luck wouldn’t have him play down to the heads-up stage. He was the first victim of the day, gone from hero to zero in a mere two hands.
Simon Charette hit him bad in the first of those hands pulling off a nasty bad beat on him. Timoshenko then shoved all-in a few hands later, holding a 6d, 8d against Simon Charette’s K,Jo. A J fell on the flop and Timoshenko was bounced from the table in 4th place.

Peter Ippolito then locked horns with Charette and even though he initially doubled up though him, he was the one who came out of the battle in worse shape. Polychronopoulos then took over and eliminated him in 3rd to set up the heads-up stage of the tournament.
Polychronopoulos had the chip lead going into the heads-up stage but that would soon change: Charette managed to bounce back nicely to secure the lead. The decisive hand of the bout saw Polychronopoulos push all-in on pocket 4s against Charette’s A,9o in a classic coin-flip. The flop brought another 4 to send the pot Polychronopoulos’ way.
The final hand saw Polychronopoulos’ J,8o go up against Charette’s 9,2o. A J landed on the flop and the tournament was over. Polychronopoulos picked up $650k for his efforts.

The level of excitement of the cortentamoms, albeit funny, just shows their lack of poker knowledge WOW!!! He's made a STRAIGHT FLUSH!!! Veldhuis now overbets with the nuts Apparently formally strong hands seem to stop the cortentamoms' brains working. Not only does he not overbet (3500 in a 3900 pot), but to call the 10-high-straight flush the nuts when it only needs 1 specific card for your opponent to beat you (moreover he is rather likely to play the Qh ) is just totally ridiculous.
