2011 WSOPE Event #1 – Day 2 Report

The second day of the first event of the
2011 WSOPE rolled on, with 80 players returning to the tables. 10 levels of action were squeezed into the day, at the end of which only 12 players were left. Event #2 got rolling too, attracting a starting field of 381 players.
Even though event #1 started out at the Hotel Majestic Barriere, for its second day, the field was moved to the Le Croisette Casino Barriere nearby. The initial objective for the day was nothing less than playing down to the final table, unfortunately, that objective proved impossible to achieve. Guillaume Humbert finished the day with the largest stack, after he had amassed 541k chips. Humbert scored several big eliminations through the day. He first clinched the lead after he bounced the chip leader of the first day: Flavien Guenan. He later made another massive addition to his stack, by eliminating Johan Sundell. The pot he took down then allowed him to break over the half million chip mark.
The second place finisher was none other than Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth has had an excellent year as he finished deep in more major live events than during the last few years put together. He played well this time too, and he managed to build his stack past the 400k mark. By winning a bracelet here, Hellmuth would add a 12th piece of jewelry to his already impressive and record-holding trophy case.
Other ‘name’ players who have managed to survive the day were David Benyamine (who managed to build a stack of 253k chips), Anton Wigg (who managed to put his stack over the 200k mark too, if only by a few chips) and Casey Kastle (who finished with 119k chips).
Event #2, the $1,090
NL Holdem one, got through its first day 1 flight. Andrew Hinrichsen finished the day with the largest stack. Farzad Bonyadi, Dan Shak and Richard Toth managed to advance as well.
