2011 WSOPE – Event #2, Day 2 Update

The 2011 WSOPE rolled on with Day 2 of the second event, the $1,090 NL Holdem tournament. The final table was set on the second day of the event and event #3, the $5,300 PLO event kicked off.
Roberto Romanello stirred quite a bit of ruckus by making the final table of event #2. Romanello can still score a Triple Crown, provided he manages to navigate the treacherous waters of the final table well and succeeds in taking down the title.
104 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the second day of action. Thanks to the early break-neck pace of the action, the field rapidly thinned out, and at the end of the day, the final table had been reached.

The field was so laden with ‘name’ competitors that almost every step of the way a high profile player bit the dust. Still, many such players remained and for a while there it looked like the final table was going to be an exclusively pro affair.
Peter Jetten was riding a 6k short-stack at the beginning of the day, and he put his tourney life onto the line straight away. He busted out on the very first hand of the event.
PokerStars’ Richard Toth was among the early victims of the day too. Dan Shak, Farzad Bonyadi and Matt Waxman didn’t fare much better either. Vanessa Selbst made the money, together with Kevin MacPhee. She then put her tournament life onto the line holding pocket Qs and ran straight into an opponent’s A,Q. Her Queens cracked, she had to settle for an average payday too. Nicholas Chouity, McLean Karr and Eoghan O’Dea busted out short of the final table too. 9 players remained when the day was called. Italy’s Gianluca Speranza was the one who held the largest stack: 757k chips.
Andrew Hinrichsen finished second, followed by Roberto Romanello in 3rd.
