2011 WSOPE – Events #5 and #6

Friday didn’t see any of the ongoing WSOP-E events play down to a winner, but it saw events#5 and #6 roll on towards their conclusions. In all fairness, event #5 was quite probably supposed to wrap up. 16 players returned to the tables in the €10.3k NL Holdem Split-format event, looking to grab as large a piece of the pie as possible. At the end of the day, 4 players remained, hardly a final table, but enough to postpone the conclusion of the event.

Roger Hairebidian is one of the players for whom winning a bracelet in this event is still a real possibility. Big Roger toiled away quietly, but extremely efficiently. He did away with Brian Powel in the second round, after a see-sawing battle. Hairebidian took the lead when his A,10 got the better of Powel’s A,7o. The final hand of their confrontation came about an hour later, when Hairebidian made the all-in call with an A,Ko, against Powel’s Kd, Jd. The flop fell an A-high, and even though the river did give Powel a 4-card diamond flush, it was too little too late for him.
Hairebidian’s next opponent will be none other than Michael Mizrachi, who managed to grind his way into the final 4 by eliminating Kent Lunkdmark in half an hour and doing away with Brian Hastings in a similarly brief fashion. The other semi-final will be played between Noah Schwartz and Shawn Buchanan.

Event #6, the $1,090 PLO event, managed to play down to its official 6-handed final table. Nicholas Fierro of Chile managed to clinch the lead heading into the final stretch, having amassed a stack of 349k chips. Other players to make the final table were: Jarred Solomon, Philippe Boucher and Jack Elwood of the UK. The final table bubble-boy was Rifat Palevic. Alexander Dovzhenko of the Ukraine had started the day with the smallest stack, yet he managed to clinch a final table berth too.
