2011 WSOPE Main Event – Day 3 Report

The surviving WSOPE field of 116 returned to action on day 3 with a very ambitious goal in mind: to play down to the final 16. As expected, the goal proved to be impossible to reach. Eventually, the day was called with 25 players left in contention.
Down the final stretch, the fate of the provisional chip lead was unclear right up to the final whistle. Max Silver and Chris Moorman – both from the UK – battled it out and eventually it was Silver who came out on top, by an ‘impressive’ margin of 11 chips.
Everyone in the poker world knows Moorman, but it turns out Silver isn’t exactly a newcomer either. As a matter of fact, he has made himself a name by winning the UKIPT’s Dublin event and then an EPT London side-event. The going got a little tough for Silver after those accomplishments, but he found his swagger again finishing 28th in the WPT’s Grand Prix de Paris and making it all the way to 4th place in the UKIPT’s Dublin event again. A few days ago, he added another deep cash to his portfolio by finishing 4th in one of the WSOPE side events.
The elimination of Matthew Frankland was the tipping point of the day for Silver. He scored a huge pot there, pulling off a perfect hand on a flush over flush match-up. From that point on, he proved to be quite unstoppable, adding pot after pot to his stack until he reached the 1,780,000 chip mark.
Moorman has been known from the online tables for years, but he has lately proven that he was just as – if not more – dangerous at the live tables too.
Although he played at a table where Constant Rijkenberg had the largest stack and where Melanie Weisner played too, Moorman took advantage of the situation by stealing a large pot from Rijkenberg, the start of the day chip leader.
Rijkenberg eventually hit the rail.
