Ben Lamb really did make things happen in 2011. It’s quite safe to say that no other poker player enjoyed a breakout year as intense as Benba, who crushed the WSOP, dominating various events to a rather unprecedented extent. Despite the fact that most people have never heard of the Tulsa, Oklahoma native before his 2011 WSOP run, he has been active online as well as on the live scene for several years.
He had been grinding at the
online poker tables quite successfully for a while before he became a pro in 2006. It didn’t take long for him to come across live tournament success: only a few months after he went pro, he won the $1k Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge in Tulsa. The win quite literally gave him wings: he flew to Vegas to take part in the WSOP where he pretty much fulfilled his destiny.
In the 2006 Series – his very first – he made it to 12th place in the $1.5k PLO event. In 2007, he returned to make a deep run in the Main Event: he ended up in 156th place, taking home a decent prize for his efforts.
In 2009, he began showing flashes of genius: that year he made it to 14th place in the Main Event, picking up around $600k for his run. In 2010, he added three more WSOP cashes to his tally. He made it to 5th place in one of the $1.5k PLO events again, and collected money from two other events. His achievements prompted him to move to Las Vegas for good.
In 2011, he started off with a 2nd place in the $3k PLO event. He then continued by grabbing the bracelet in the $10k PLO World Championship event. Next was a 12th place finish in the $10k NL Holdem Six-handed Championship event. In the $50k Poker Players’ Championship, Lamb finished 8th for another nice haul, however, his biggest prize came in the Main Event in which he finished 3rd.
