2013 has definitely been the year of the high-stakes German player. Indeed, players from Germany have dominated some of the biggest live
poker tournaments through the year, and members of what grew to be dubbed as “Team Germany” have popped up in the top ranks of almost every single significant live poker event out there.
Just who were the players responsible for all the poker glory brought upon the German flag though? Niklas Heinecker has dominated the high stakes action online, Philipp Gruissem did the same in various high rollers all over the world, together with Fabian Quoss, Igor Kurganov and Tobias Reinkemeier.
Among them, the above mentioned players earned an astonishing $17.09 million in 2013.
Heinecker, the
online poker specialist, was one of the biggest earners, with $6 million to his name.
Ole Schemion was another German menace at the tables in 2013. Schemion wasn’t even old enough to play in the 2013 WSOP, but that didn’t prevent him from taking home some $1.65 million in tournament profits.
Although the domination of the German contingent was quite obvious in many of the live and online events that took place in 2013, nowhere was it more apparent than in the WCOOP Main Event, where the top 3 was made up exclusively of German players.
All three finishers (two players known only by their online monikers and Daniel Drescher) walked away with more than $1.1 million after a 3-way deal.
At the
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, the first major tournament of the year, the German big guns were already brought to bear: Tobias Reinkemeier finished 7th, and Ole Schemion made it all the way to 4th place.
The above said players were joined by Max Altergott at the
EPT Monte Carlo, where the latter took down the $100k Super High Roller, pocketing the top prize of more than $2.3 million.
