2012 SCOOP – Day 10 Report

Shaun Deeb and Viktor Blom have been getting increasingly desperate to take down a third SCOOP title at this year’s series and they have been hitting closer and closer to that goal. Eventually, it was Deeb who succeeded, winning his third SCOOP 2012 event on Day 10. Deeb’s Day 10 performance is indeed something for the poker history books. He played in 9 events, of which in 5 he made the money. He made two final tables and he managed to grab a win too. Besides crowning him the undisputed king of this year’s SCOOP, Deeb’s latest win took the total number of his SCOOP titles to four.

The event which ended in Deeb’s victory was the $2k Stud Hi/Lo event which featured a $75k guarantee. Given the size of the buy-in, it was quite impressive that 74 players turned up for the tournament. The eventual prize-pool shot to $148k this way. Needless to say, the field was full of high profile professionals. The final table consisted almost exclusively of ‘name’ players. Besides Deeb, Clayton Mozdzen made the final stretch, together with Daniel Ospina, Eugene Katchalov, Rodrigo Caprioli and Frederik Jensen. Ospina was the first victim of the final table. He was followed to the rail by a player known as kasparov007, who had in fact been directly responsible for Ospina’s elimination.

It only took 6 hands for the next elimination to come by: Clayton Mozdzen was the one biting the dust that time, courtesy of Shaun Deeb. Frederik Jensen was bounced next by Rodrigo Caprioli, who then proceeded to eliminate Eugene Katchalov too. Caprioli’s run ended in third place: he was sent to the rail by Deeb. Caprioli picked up $20.7k for his efforts. The heads-up stage of the poker tournament between Deeb and PerpCzech saw Deeb start with a 1-2 chip handicap. He soon caught up though and managed to turn the tables. Eventually, he locked up the win, taking home the $40.3k top prize. PerpCzech took home $27.3k for his efforts.
