2012 SCOOP – Day 4 Report

Thus far, every single day of the 2012 SCOOP, there was some high-profile player rising to the top, giving poker news portals something to write about. Day 4 was no different. This time, it was Shaun Deeb’s turn to shine: he secured his second ever SCOOP bracelet, by winning the $2k Limit Stud event, which offered a guaranteed prize-pool of $25k.
64 players entered the
poker tournament, generating a prize-pool of $128k. Given the size of the buy-in, the starting field was quite a stellar one indeed. Sorel Mizzi played, together with Alex Kostritsyn, Eugene Katchalov and Scott Clements. On the second day of the event, Deeb was the short-stack on the bubble. He managed to avoid being eliminated and managed to make the final table, still behind the shortest stack. From there on out, the pro took control of the action hitting a few good hands and milking them to their maximum potential. After a couple of eliminations (that of ‘Speedpokah’ and Pat Pezzin) Deeb found himself in the lead.
James Obst was in the mix too, but he got eliminated in 3rd place, a move which set up the heads-up stage between Deeb and a player known as ‘TheMuppet’. At the beginning of heads-up action, TheMuppet held a small lead over Deeb, but that would soon change. Deeb took over after a lucky hand, eventually locking up the win and the $41.6k top prize.
TheMuppet picked up $26.8k for his second place, while James Obst was rewarded with $19.2k.
The weird thing about Day 4 was that it didn’t give yet another bracelet to Viktor Blom, PokerStars’ Swedish pro who locked up wins on Days 2 and 3 too.
Martin Staszko made a nice deep run in the $1k NL Holdem 2-day event, where he finished in 3rd place, taking home $126.1k for his efforts. The event was won by Pollopopeye, who pocketed $229.2k to go with the title.
