The third day of the WPT’s Vienna Main Event saw 67 players return to the tables of the Montesino. With the money bubble set for 45th place, the stakes were high on day 3. About 4 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 21 players were left in contention.
Goswin Siemsen managed to clinch the chip lead, having amassed a stack of 1,193,000 chips.
A bunch of players who had in one way or another built an extremely strong case for their finishing in the money during the first two days of the event, bit the dust, sent to the rail penniless at the beginning of day 3. David Breitfuss, the chip leader of the first day 1 flight was among them, together with Thomas Butzhammer and Denis Schaefer. Chris Moorman fell early in the day too. Moorman had begun the day second in chips, looking to make it way past the money bubble, however, he dropped a bunch of his chips in a pot against Michael Eiler on a classic coin-flip. Moorman had pocket 8s against Eiler’s A,Qo. The flop sided with Moorman, but an A on the river turned the tables on him for good. The river changed nothing and Moorman saw the majority of his chips migrate over to his opponent’s stack. A few hands later, he was all-in again, running head-first into Marko Neumann’s set of 4s which ended his
poker tournament life short of the money.
The money bubble burst at the end of the battle of the two Bens. Ben Wilinofsky squared off against Ben Vinson, on a Kh, 7h vs A, Ko bout. Wilinofsky was way behind but he managed to catch a lowly 7 on the flop for a pair and the lead. The turn and the river didn’t hit his opponent either, and the money bubble was out of the way as Vinson headed to the rail tail between legs.
