The 12th day of the 2012 WSOP was a generous one bracelets-wise: two players earned their WSOP jewelry: Brian Hastings, the
online poker specialist who was responsible for stopping Isildur1 back when no one knew he was in fact Viktor Blom, and David Arsht.
Hastings’ win came in the $10k NL Limit Holdem Heads-up event, which saw only 4 players return to its tables on its final day. Hastings played Tommy Chen in one of the semi-finals. After a couple of early blows were traded, Chen faded away quickly, so Hastings advanced to the match-up against the winner of the Jason Mo and Brock Parker bout.
The final saw Hastings grab the early advantage over Mo, and soon, he forced his opponent to use up both his rebuys. The final hand of the event saw Hastings’ A,4o go up against Mo’s Q,9o. The board gave Hastings a pair of As and the tournament was over. Hastings picked up $371.4k for his efforts while the runner up was rewarded with a $229.7k prize.
The other event which successfully awarded a bracelet on Day 12 was event #13, the $1.5k Limit Holdem Event. David Arsht was the one who picked up the honors this time, although his rise to the top was by no means a smooth one.
He never really managed to build up a substantial lead that could’ve given him some respite. The pot which set Arsht on his way to the top was quite probably the one he took down from Al Barbieri and Donald Auger during 4-handed play. By the time the heads-up stage was reached, Arsht held a 5-1 chip advantage over Stephen Hung. The event wrapped up with a bang: in the final hand, both players has Q trips. The difference was eventually made by Arsht’s 10c kicker, which landed him the bracelet and the $211.9k top prize.
Event #14, the $1.5k NL Holdem Shootout, played down to its final 12. Other events which saw action on day 12 were the $5k Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo event and the $1.5k NL Holdem 6-handed event.
