2012 WSOP – Day 14 Report

Five events saw action on the 14th day of the
2012 WSOP, of which one ended up awarding a bracelet. The event was event #16, the $1.5k NL Holdem Six-handed one, which made Matt Matros $454k and a gold bracelet richer.
The event featured quite a hellish final table. 9 players returned to action on its final day, among them Mike Matusow and Matt Glantz. Matusow’s bracelet quest ended very prematurely: he was the second player to be bounced from the final table. He lost a big pot on a Q,Q vs A,Ko match-up and he never managed to rebound from the hit.
Glantz didn’t hang around a lot longer either. As a matter of fact, he followed Matusow right to the rail, on an eerily similar match-up, with a radically different outcome. Glantz had the A,K this time and his opponent had the pocket Qs, which caught another Q on the flop for the set and the win.
The heads-up stage of the event saw Mat Matros square off against Mark Radoja. The action started on nearly equal footings, and the bout was quite even too almost up until the final few hands, when Matros managed to take down a large pot on two pair.
The last hand of the event saw Matros’ 6h, 5h triumph over his opponent’s J,7o after he hit a flush.
This bracelet was Matros’ 3rd.
Event #17, the $2.5k Seven Card Stud one, saw 174 players return to the tables. At the end of the day, the field had whittled down to the final 18. The money bubble burst as the 37th player bit the dust. Brandon Cantu finished with the largest stack, followed by Phil Hellmuth with almost as many chips.
The $10k PL Holdem event played down to its final 17 too. Two events kicked off on Day 14: the $1.5k NL Holdem event (#19) and the $5k Limit Holdem event (#20).
