2012 WSOP – Day 21 Report

It was obvious from the get-go that day 21 of the 2012 WSOP would make up for the bracelet-drought of the previous day, which made no one a fresh bracelet owner. Indeed, Day 21 saw 2 bracelets awarded, as a total of 5 events rolled towards their conclusions.
Event #27, the $1.5k HORSE event, was long overdue to play down to a winner. 3 players returned at the beginning of the final day of action to decide the fate of the bracelet: Ylon Schwartz had the chip lead, while Stephen Chidwick and David Chiu were looking to come from behind to grab the goods.
Eventually, Schwartz’s experience and chip advantage was far too much to overcome for the other two protagonists. Chidwick was bounced first in a PLO round, followed to the rail by Chiu, who bit the dust after he lost a massive pot in a Stud hand.
Schwartz picked up $267k to go with his bracelet, while Chiu and Chidwick were rewarded with $164.9k and $112.1k respectively.

Event #28, the 4-handed $2.5k NL Holdem event, was responsible for the second bracelet of the day. 8 players returned on the final day of action, and within a level, the final table was indeed reached. Greg Merson was the final table bubble-boy. His fate was sealed by Brendon Rubie in 5th place.
Anthony Gregg busted out next, followed to the rail by James Schaaf. The heads-up stage of the action between Rubie and Timothy Adams lasted for 4 hours. Eventually, it was Adams who emerged with the win, taking down $392.4k to go with his bracelet. Rubie earned a $242.4k reward.

The $1k Seniors’ NL Holdem event played down to its final 33. Kevin DeTienne finished the day with the largest stack. The $1.5k 2-7 Lowball event rolled on as well. Brandon Cantu finished in the lead as the field reached the final 7, rolling right past the money-bubble.
Event #31, the $1.5k NL Holdem one, got started, attracting a starting field of 2,811 players.
