2012 WSOP – Day 24 Report

Phil Ivey isn’t considered the best poker player in the world for nothing. Although thus far he’s failed to take down a bracelet at this year’s Series, he has certainly delivered more than his fair share of evidence that he is indeed a force to reckon with at the green felt. Day 24 of the 2012 WSOP saw him make his 5th final table, in the $2.5k Mixed Holdem event.
Event #33, the $1k NL Holdem event was the only event of the day which resulted in a bracelet finding its home. 14 players returned to the tables on the last day of the tournament, all of them with their eyes on the top prize. Matt Stout and Vincent van der Fluit were among the starters, however in the end it was Max Steinberg who managed to clinch the title and the $440.2k top prize.
Van der Fluit was among the early victims of the day. Stout on the other hand made it all the way to 3rd place, picking up $192.8k for his efforts. Steinberg faced Samuel Gerber heads-up for the bracelet and his pocket 10s made quick work of his opponent’s lowly 4,10o in the final hand of the poker tournament. The runner-up’s spot was worth $273.3k.

Event #34, the $5k PLO one, played down to its final 11. Naoya Kihara was the one who clinched the chip lead, by a rather massive margin at that. David Benyamine had started the day with the largest stack, but he faded away and he was eventually eliminated too.

87 players returned to action in event #35, the $2.5k Mixed Limit Holdem event. Joep van den Bijgaart finished the day with the largest stack, but the main focus of the press was on Phil Ivey who managed to make yet another final table as the event played down to its home stretch. Ivey finished with a rather short-ish stack of 169k chips. Two other events saw action on Day 24 of the Series: the $3k NL Holdem Shootout and the $2.5k Eight-game Mix.
