The 25th day of the
2012 WSOP was yet again a day which saw records fall. Japan’s Naoya Kihara won his first WSOP bracelet, becoming the first ever native Japanese to take down one of the coveted jewelry-pieces.
The other bracelet winner was Chris Tryba. Phil Ivey didn’t manage to get to the bracelet this time either, despite having come tantalizingly close for the 5th time this Series.
Event #34, the $5k PLO Six-handed one, saw 11 players return to its tables, with the clear intention of playing down to a winner. Naoya Kihara was the one who entered the final stretch of the event in possession of the largest stack. He put his chip advantage to great use, and after tangling a few times with Davidi Kitai, he found himself heads-up against Chris De Maci. Kihara picked up $512k for his efforts, together with the gold bracelet. De Maci was rewarded with $316k for his second place.
Event #35 was the one in which Phil Ivey played too. He came into the final table on a short stack, and sure enough, he wasn’t able to get much going. He was bounced in 8th place, picking up $21.6k for his efforts. The winner of the event was Chris Tryba, who defeated Eric Cajelais heads-up to clinch the bracelet and the $129.7k top prize.
Event #36, the $3k NL Holdem Shootout, saw 60 players return to action. By the end of the day, the field had successfully played down to the final 10. Antonio Esfandiari finished the day with the largest stack, followed by Joe Tehan and Jeremiah Fitzpatrick.
Event #37, the $2.5k Eight Game Mix played on as well. It saw 209 players belly up to the tables at the beginning of day. When the action was called, there were only 27 contestants left.
Event #38, the $1.5k NL Holdem one was the only event which started on Day 25. 2,502 players registered. At the end of the day, only 277 were left alive.
