Day 29 of the
2012 WSOP had 5 events see action, but only one bracelet found its way to the pockets of a deserving winner. The reason for the bracelet shortage was the fact that event #41, the $3k
NL Holdem one, which was supposed to play down to a winner, failed to do so, and had its day called with 2 players remaining in action.
The event had 30 players return to its tables at the beginning of the day. Joseph Chaplin had the chip lead followed by Jackie Glazier. 13 hours of play went into the day, so it certainly wasn’t for lack of trying that a winner failed to be decided. At the end of the day, Jackie Glazier remained heads-up with Greg Ostrander. Start of the day chip leader Joseph Chaplin made it all the way to 7th place before he was bounced. He picked up $88.4k for his efforts.
The event which did actually award its bracelet was event #42, the $2.5k Omaha/Stud 8 or better split one. 22 players returned to action in this event, with Jeff Lisandro leading the way. Lisandro managed to ride his large stack into 10th place, where he fell courtesy of Mark Gregorich.
Brandon Guss was the official final table bubble boy. At that stage, Gregorich was the one with the largest stack. Gregorich’s stack would tide him into 3rd place eventually. He picked up $90.8k for his efforts, leaving Oleksii Kovalchuk and George Danzer to battle it out heads-up. Kovalchuk was the one who eventually triumphed, taking down the bracelet and the $228k top prize. Danzer finished second, good enough for a $140.8k haul.
Event #43, the $1.5k NL Holdem one, managed to play down from 320 players to the final 20. Zach Clark finished the day with the chip lead.
Event #44, the $1k Nl Holdem one, saw 2.949 players register. The field successfully played down to 297, right into the money.
