2012 WSOP – Day 3 Report

Event #2, the $1.5k NL Holdem one continued on Day 3 of the 2012 WSOP. 240 players returned to the green felt with the immediate goal being to battle down to the money bubble. After that goal was handily covered, the field proceeded to play down to the final 15. Jacob Bazeley was the one who managed to clinch the still provisional chip lead.
The money bubble was set for 216th place and it was Jason Berilgen whose elimination landed all the other survivors in the money. Berilgen staked his tournament life onto an As, 8s he’d picked up and he got called by Matt Juttelstad who had pocket 8s. The board completely failed Berilgen who hit the rail in 217th place, becoming the official bubble boy of the first open
poker tournament of the 2012 WSOP.
Phil Hellmuth was still in the mix when the bubble burst, but he failed to make it through the day. He fell in 61st place and by doing so he recorded his 86th WSOP money finish. He picked up $7.2k for his efforts. In his last hand, he had an A,J against Antoine Nowak’s pocket Js. Following Hellmuth’s elimination, Nowak ran around a bit screaming and hollering to express his delight over the high-value target he had just taken out.
Sadan Turker had the most chips at the beginning of the day, but the second day’s attrition exacted a heavy toll on his stack. He was eliminated in 24th place. John Juanda was the one who bit the dust just before Turker was sent to the rail too. Other high-profile players eliminated towards the end of the day were Paul Wasicka, and Hoa Phan, whose pocket Ks suffered a bad beat at the hands of an opponent’s pocket Qs.
Events #3 and #4 got going on day 3 too. The $3k heads-up NLH/PLO event saw 317 players register, while the $1.5k Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo saw 622 players belly up to the tables.
