The 31st day of the
2012 WSOP was a busy one: no fewer than 6 events saw action, but there was only one bracelet awarded. The sole winner of the day was Rocco Palumbo, who won event #44, the $1k
NL Holdem one.
Event #44 saw only 16 players return to action. Thomas Conway was the one who had the largest stack at the beginning of the day. Keven Stammen was the first player who bit the dust: he was bounced in 16th place, a definite improvement on his 28th place finish from event #38.
Hardly had the last 10 players taken their seats at the feature table, the first victim already hit the rail. Darren Rabinowitz got his chips into the middle with pocket Ks against Kevin Elia’s A,K. An A on the turn sealed Rabinowitz’s fate straight away.
The heads-up stage of the action saw Nelson Robinson square off against Rocco Palumbo. In the final hand of the event, Palumbo’s Ad, 9d made short work of his opponent’s Ks,6s. Palumbo picked up $464.4k to go with his bracelet. The runner-up was rewarded with $288.4k for his efforts.
Event #45, the $50k Poker Players’ Championship, had 63 players return to its tables. 4 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 26 players remained standing. Andy Bloch was the chip leader at the beginning of the day. When the action was called, Viktor Blom had the largest stack in front of him. Needless to say, the surviving field consists almost exclusively of ‘name’ competitors: besides Blom, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey survived too, together with Daniel Alaei, Michael and Robert Mizrachi and David Oppenheim.
Event #46, the $2.5k NL Holdem one, saw 233 players belly up to the tables. The field successfully played down to the final 25. Joey Weissman is the player who bagged the most chips at the end of the day.
Event #48, the $3k Limit Holdem one, saw 247 players enter. After the first day, the field was down to 126 competitors.
