Day 34 of the
2012 WSOP saw only 4 events roll on, and a single bracelet awarded: the one who picked it up was the winner of event #49, Greg Hobson. Event #49, the $1.5k Ante only NL Holdem one, saw nine players return to the tables. Although small, the field was quite star-studded: Mike Sowers was there, together with Harrison Gimbel and Mike McDonald.
Greg Hobson was the one who kick-started the final table hostilities by eliminating Schwartz in 9th place. The elimination was a rather classic one: Hobson had pocket rockets against Schwartz’s A,K.
The next elimination was scored by Hobson as well. Mike McDonald made it all the way to 6th place, where he fell to John Hayes. He picked up $39.9k for his efforts.
Gimbel made it to 4th spot, where he busted out at the hands of Hayes. Hayes’ turn came when he ran into Mike Sowers and bit the dust in 3rd place, picking up a $99.4k prize. The heads-up stage of the action saw Sowers and Hobson tear into each-other. Hobson took the upper hand quickly and the
poker tournament was over when his pocket 7s bested his opponent’s A,7o. The top spot was worth $256.6k, while the runner-up was rewarded with $158.8k.
The $5k NL Holdem event saw 303 players belly up to the tables. The money bubble burst on the second day of the event and the field played down to the final 48 by the end of the day. Joseph Cheong is the one who clinched the provisional chip lead.
Event #51, the $1.5k Ladies NL Holdem Championship event, kicked off with a starting field of 900. 117 players remained alive, with Gaelle Baumann leading the pack into day 2. JJ Liu finished near the top as well.
Event #52, the $2.5k 10-Game Mix Six-handed one, started out with 400 players. Due to the Big One for One Drop starting up afterwards, many of the ‘name’ pros chose to skip this event to focus their attention where it will truly make a difference.
