2012 WSOP – Day 35 Report

Day 35 of the 2012 WSOP saw five events roll on. Four of these were regular WSOP events while the fifth was a super satellite for the Big One for One Drop. The interesting thing about Day 35 was that despite all the ongoing action, no WSOP jewelry was awarded. The event which should’ve made a player a bracelet and several hundreds of thousands of dollars richer, was event #50, the $5k NL Holdem one. 48 players returned to action in this one, but they eventually failed to play down to a winner. After 13 hours of green felt hostilities, the day was eventually called with three players remaining in contention. Of the three, Dan Smith had the largest stack (about 6.6 million chips). Kyle Julius and Panayote Vilandos were the other two survivors.
Three ‘name’ players made the final table and walked away with significant prizes: Amir Lehavot fell in 9th place, picking up a $67.8k reward. Tommy Vedes made it to 8th, taking down a $86.8k reward. 7th place ended up in Matt Gianetti’s possession. It was worth $112.7k.

Event #51, the $1k NL Holdem Ladies Championship, saw 117 players return to the tables. The field managed to play down to the final table of 9, with Debbie Pechac leading the way.

The $25k Big One for One Drop super satellite saw 96 players pony up the substantial buy-in. Needless to say, the field was as star-studded as it could possibly get. Viktor Blom played, together with David Benyamine, Carlos Mortensen, Eugene Katchalov, JP Kelly, Chris Moorman, Erick Lindgren and scores of other, similar-caliber pros. The winner of the event and that of the Big One seat was Gus Hansen, who defeated Shaun Deeb heads-up. Deeb didn’t go home empty-handed either: he picked up a $1million prize. Third place man Jason Somerville got $400k for his efforts.
The other two events which saw action on Day 35, were the $2.5k 10-Game Mix 6-handed event and the $1.5k NL Holdem one.
