2012 WSOP – Day 36 Report

Day 36 of the 2012 WSOP was a truly historic one for several reasons. First of all, Vanessa Selbst made poker history by winning her second bracelet in the $2.5k 10-Game Mix 6-Handed event. The interesting thing about the bracelet was the fact that it was only the second one won by a female in an open event since Selbst’s 2008 achievement. The other reason why Day 36 stood out by a head and a shoulder above the rest was that the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop got going in the Amazon Room.
19 players bellied up to the tables of the $2.5k 10-Game Mix 6-Handed event at the beginning of the day, looking to play down to a winner. Eventually, the goal was indeed achieved after Vanessa Selbst bested Michael Saltzburg heads-up. Selbst picked up $244.2k to go with her bracelet while the runner-up was rewarded with $150.8k. Selbst’s bracelet wasn’t the only one of the day. Event #50, the $5k Limit Holdem one, managed to play down to a winner as well. Three players showed up at the tables at the beginning of the day: Kyle Julius, Panayote Vilandos and Dan Smith. Vilandos was the one who grabbed the bracelet, after he bested Julius heads-up. He was rewarded with $952.6k for his efforts, while Julius picked up $589.6k.

The third bracelet of the day was awarded in the $1k Ladies NL Holdem championship event. Yen Dang was the one who managed to rise to the top, defeating Debbie Pechac heads-up for the title. The winner’s share of the loot was $170.5k. Pechac took home $105.5k for her second place.
The Big One for One Drop saw 48 players belly up to the tables of the Amazon Room, and indeed, by the end of the day, several of them had bitten the dust. Bertrand Grospellier was eliminated, together with Andrew Robl and Jonathan Duhamel. Brian Rast finished the day with the chip lead, followed by Phil Hellmuth.
