2012 WSOP – Day 37 Report

Day 37 of the 2012 WSOP was a stingy one bracelets-wise. While there wasn’t any jewelry handed out, there was plenty of action nonetheless. Event #53, the $1.5k NL Holdem one, saw its field play right down to the heads-up stage. Event #54, the $1k NL Holdem one, came tantalizingly close to its final table, playing down to the final 15. The Big One for One Drop saw action on Day 37 as well.

Event #53 saw 28 players return to its tables. Lee Childs and Victoria Coren were both playing, and they obviously had all eyes on them as the field approached the final table. None of them would make the final stretch though. Coren was eliminated at the end of a perfect hand which saw her top pair top kicker fall to an opponent’s bottom set. She bit the dust in 17th place. Childs followed her to the rail shortly, eliminated in 16th by an opponent whose A,Jo bested his pocket 5s on the flop.
Sylvain Gonon was the final table bubble-boy. Eventually, there were only two players left standing: Neil Willerson and Vladimir Mefodichev.

265 players hit the green felt in event #54, the $1k NL Holdem one, on day 37 of the Series, among them numerous ‘name’ players like Huck Seed and Tom McCormick. Both of these guys were bounced early though. The money-bubble burst and players fell left and right as the field played down to the final 15.

The Big One for One Drop had 37 players return to its tables on Day 37. The field successfully played down to the final 8, so by all means it was indeed a busy day for the high rollers. Daniel Negreanu and Tom Dwan were both bounced, together with Phil Galfond, Phil Ivey and Ben Lamb. Antonio Esfandiari picked up the chip lead after he took a massive pot from Jason Mercier. Sam Trickett and Phil Hellmuth both made the final table.
