Day 39 of the
2012 WSOP awarded two bracelets and saw plenty of action in various other events. The first bracelet of the day went to the winner of event #54, the $1k NL Holdem one. Two players returned to action in this event: Luis Campelo and Will Jaffe. The event was supposed to play down to a winner on Day 38, but it failed to do so.
Jaffe had the chip lead at the beginning of the day, but his advantage was blown to bits almost as soon as the action kicked off. Campelo managed to hit a miraculous double-up and the action continued from equal footings. The hand in question saw Campelo’s K,2o best Jaffe’s Ac,Qc.
Jaffe remained unfazed though. He began chipping away at his opponent’s stack and little by little, he pushed him onto the ropes again. The final hand of the event saw Jaffe’s A,2o best Campelo’s K,3o. The winner picked up a $500k prize to go with his new WSOP bling. Campelo pocketed $309.4k for his efforts.
The second bracelet yielding event of the day was the $1.5k
NL Holdem one (#56). 22 players returned to the green felt in this one and there was no way they would end the day without a winner clutching the bracelet. Peter Eastgate and Sam Holden were among the competitors, however none of them managed to even make the heads-up stage of the event. Eastgate did pretty well though: he ended up in 4th place, taking home $209.1k.
The heads-up battle saw David Borg square off against Tomas Junek. In the end, it was Junek who won, taking down the gold and the $661k top prize.
Event #57, the $10k NL Holdem one, had 167 players return to its tables. The field managed to play down to the final 27, but that’s where the day was called. Nick Maimone finished the day with a healthy stack.
Other events that saw action on Day 39 were #58, #59.
