2012 WSOP – Day 41 Report

Day 41 of the 2012 WSOP was a really busy one: two players picked up their WSOP jewelry and two other events managed to play down to their respective final tables. The 5th event of the day played down to its final 39.
The first bracelet-yielding event of the day was the $10k NL Holdem Six-max event. Two players returned to the tables to play down to a winner: Gregory Merson and Keith Lehr. Merson was the one who eventually triumphed, his K,9 getting the better of his opponent’s A,Q in the final hand. The winner picked up a $1,136,197 prize to go with his bracelet. Lehr got a more than decent reward too: he walked away $701,757 richer.
Shannon Shorr finished 3rd in the event but he had busted out during the previous day.

Event #58, the $3k PLO 8 or better split one, was the second event that resulted in a bracelet on Day 41. Three players returned to the tables in this one: Chris Bell, Roch Cousineau and the eventual winner: Viacheslav Zhukov. Bell was the one who started the day with the shortest stack and sure enough, he became the first victim of the day. Zhukov was the one responsible for his demise.
The heads-up stage was a pretty even race, as the lead changed hands numerous times. Eventually, after close to three hours of back and forth, Zhukov managed to push Cousineau into a desperately short-stacked position. The final hand of the event saw Zhukov’s two pair spell the end of the tournament and the crowning of its winner. Zhukov took down $330.2k for his efforts.
Cousineau walked away with $204k, while Bell was rewarded with $135.8k.

Two other events which saw action on Day 41 were events #59, the $1k NL Holdem event, and event #60, the NL 2-7 Lowball one. The lowball event managed to play down to its final 10, while the NL Holdem one reached its final 51.
