2012 WSOP – Day 44 Report

The 2012 WSOP has thus far broken several records, and apparently it was meant for the last day 1 flight of the Main Event to break yet another one. The 3,418 players who showed up for the event, created the largest ever single day starting field of a
WSOP Main Event. Five levels of action went into the day, at the end of which Randy Haddox had the largest stack of chips bagged.
Needless to say, the field was littered with notables: Jamie Gold, Johnny Chan and Joe Cada all played, together with Doyle Brunson and Tom McEvoy. All these players managed to make it through to Day 2. There were several ‘name’ players who fell by the side too of course. Chris Moneymaker was one of them. Jonathan Duhamel failed to make the cut as well.
One of the early stories of the day was that of Doyle Brunson, who didn’t initially want to play in this year’s Big Dance, but eventually decided to show up and put up the $10k. He ended up finishing the day with a rather decent stack of 81,400 chips. Antonio Esfandiari survived the day too, albeit on a stack a hair shorter than that of Tex Dolly.
Sorel Mizzi, Gus Hansen, Brad Booth and Nick Schulman also survived.
Viktor Blom had all eyes on him as he battled his way to a 110,225 stack. One of the critical hands which Blom took part in saw his A,Ko go up against an opponent’s pocket Ks. The board decided to give him an A on the flop and another one on the turn to double him up to about 90k.
Joseph Cheong played pretty well too. He ended the day with a stack of 84,775 chips. Ted Forrest managed to get over the hurdle too, although he will begin day 2 as one of the shortest stacks, with a mere 8,150 chips to his name.
