2012 WSOP – Day 6 Report

Day 6 of the
2012 WSOP was a little bit stingy bracelets-wise: only one player earned his WSOP stripes: the winner of event #5, the $1.5k PL Holdem one, Nick Jivkov. Event #6, the $5k NL Holdem Mix Maxed one came close to awarding a bracelet too, as it played down to its heads-up stage, but eventually fell well short of the mark. Events #7 and #8 rolled on too.
At the beginning of the final table of the $1.5k PL Holdem event, Daniel Negreanu hogged all the limelight: everyone was expecting him to score another WSOP bracelet, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Jivkov was 4th in chips when the action kicked off.
Negreanu got off to a flying start and pretty soon he had quite a few chips added to his already towering stack. Despite playing every single hand by the book, the Canadian was eventually bounced in 5th place thanks to the combined efforts of Lady Luck and Nick Jivkov. He had all his chips in the middle on an A,Qo against Jivkov’s A,Jo, and he even managed to catch another Q on the flop to extend his lead. Jivkov then proceeded to hit a backdoor flush and the PokerStars pro was bounced, earning $41.6k for his efforts.
Tommy Vedes was eliminated shortly after Negreanu’s demise, by the same Jivkov who made another come-from-behind move to put him away in 4th place.
The heads-up stage of the event saw Jivkov get the better of Bryan Pellegrino.
The $5k NL Holdem Mix Maxed event surpassed several important milestones on its second day: the field managed to play past the money bubble and right down to the heads-up stage, where the momentum ran out though. Negreanu played in this event too, but he failed to make the final stages this time around.
31 players reached the heads-up stage of the tournament, among them Victor Ramdin, Marvin Rettenmaier, Joe Tehan and Erich Froehlich.
