2012 WSOP – Day 7 Report

The 7th day of the 2012 WSOP was a busy one despite the fact that only one player saw his efforts crowned with a gold bracelet. The grind continued in several events as event #7, the $1.5k Seven Card Stud one, played down to its winner. Event #6, the $5k NL Holdem Mix-Maxed one, almost got down to its own bracelet, but eventually the action was called with 4 players remaining.
31 players returned to the green felt on Day 3 of the event, looking to battle down as close to the bracelet as possible through a series of heads-up matches.
The 4 players who still have a chance to take down the bracelet and the $480.5k top prize are Warwick Mirzikinian, Aubin Cazals, Joseph Cheong, and Hugo Lemaire. Mirzikinian will play Cazals and Cheong will battle Lemaire in the semi-finals. Nicolas Levi and Marvin Rettenmaier were among those eliminated during Day 3.

Event #6, the $1.5k Seven Card Stud one, saw its final table reconvene on what was scheduled to be its last day of action. Several interesting players were at the final table, among them eventual winner Andy Bloch, who – believe it or not – hadn’t ever won a bracelet before his Day 7 performance.
Caroline Hermesh drew quite a bit of attention too, together with David Williams. At the beginning of the final table action, Williams, Bloch and Barry Greenstein had the most chips. Hermesh faded away relatively early, hitting the rail in 7th place and picking up a little over $15k for her efforts.
Williams then swung into action and eliminated Lee Goldman in 6th place, building up a huge chip lead in the process. The next elimination was Bloch’s and while he was at it, Williams dropped a few chips here and there to give up his lead.
Williams was eventually eliminated in 4th place. The heads-up bout was between Bloch and Greenstein. The final hand of the event saw Bloch’s Broadway straight triumph and thus he ended up with the bracelet and the $126.3k top prize.
