2012 WSOP – Negreanu Makes Final Table

Day 5 of the 2012 WSOP was definitely a busy one. No fewer than 5 events rolled on during the day, as two players picked up their WSOP bracelets. The two winners of the day were Leif Force, who won event #3, the Heads-up NLH/PLO mixed event, and Cory Zeidman, who pocketed his gold in the Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or better event (#4). All eyes were on Annette Obrestad in the Heads-up NLH/PLO mixed event, who looked like she might become the second woman after Vanessa Selbst, to win an open WSOP bracelet. She matched skills with Jason Koon and she ran into trouble immediately. She eventually faded away in 8th place overall.
Leif Force took care of Andy Frankenberger and Julian Powell on his way to the final heads-up match of the event against Jason Koon. Force picked up $207.7k for his win, while Koon walked away with $126,6k.

23 players returned to the green felt on the last day of event #4, aiming to play right down to a winner. Xuan Liu led the field at the beginning of the day, but he eventually fell victim to the grind in 6th place, eliminated by none other than Michael Mizrachi. The Miz himself was eliminated by Chris Bjorin who made it to the heads-up stage of the event, together with Cory Zeidman. The final hand of the event saw Zeidman’s pocket Ks get the better of his adversary’s straight draw. The win meant a $201.5k payday for Zeidman.

Event #5 saw the returning field of 71 players play down to a final table. A whole bunch of ‘name’ pros were in the books at the beginning of the day. Daniel Negreanu was there, together with John Juanda, Antonio Esfandiari and Terrence Chan. Negreanu was the only one of these players to make it to the final table, the others bit the dust here and there along the way.
Two other events got going on day 5: the $5k NL Holdem Mix Max event and the $1.5k Seven-Card Stud event.
