2013 Aussie Millions $25k Challenge – Igor Kurganov Wins

Only 5 players were left alive for the final day of the Aussie Millions’ $25k high roller. While in high rollers, making the final table doesn’t even always guarantee a cash finish, this time around, everyone who returned for the last day of action could be certain that he would not leave the table empty-handed.
Fabian Quoss started the last day in possession of the largest stack and thus with the best odds for the win. Unfortunately for Quoss, things didn’t turn out particularly well for him. First, he lost the chip lead to Kurganov, as the latter managed to shoot down a massive bluff by Niklas Heinecker. Having lost the lead, Quoss’ luck went from bad to worse fast: he dropped a few more pots left and right and soon he found himself the shortest stack at the table. Then, during level 15, he lost his tournament life too.
He pushed every last one of his chips into the middle with a Q,10o, and he got called by Heinecker, who was looking to make up for his early setback with an Ac, Jc. A board full of bricks fell, with the exception of the turn which was a J to give Heinecker the pot. Quoss picked up $51k for his 5th place.
Unfortunately for him, Heinecker didn’t quite take advantage of his chip-up and he became the very next victim of the final table. The one responsible for Heinecker’s elimination was Igor Kurganov. Heinecker’s share of the prize-pool was $85k.
Erik Seidel’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament. Kurganov – who had started the day with the shortest stack – was responsible for his demise as well.
The heads-up bout was quite even, until Kurganov managed a double-up. A few hands later, he was crowned the champ.
