The 2013 Aussie Millions saw a total of 27 players belly up to the tables of its $25,000 High Roller, on the first day of the action. The 27 players contributed 30 buy-ins, including the three re-buys that three of the players were forced to post. Vanessa Selbst, Fabian Quoss and Joe Hachem all decided it was well worth to cough up $25,000 more to stay in contention after having bitten the dust the first time around. Of the three players, only Fabian Quoss managed to achieve something with his second buy-in. In fact, he finished the first day of the
poker tournament with the largest stack.
Needless to say, when it comes to high rollers such as the $25,000 challenge, starting fields consists almost exclusively of high-profile poker professionals. That was exactly the case this time around as well: besides the above said three players, Grant Levy, Jeff Rossiter and Jesse Sylvia played too. Despite the relatively shallow starting field, it took the contestants around 12 hours to play down to the 5-handed final table. Mark Teltscher was bounced in 9th place, followed by Jonathan Karamalikis in 8th. By this stage, the final table was within sight and the action tightened up considerably.
Ole Schemion had had an excellent run, asserting his control over the proceedings at one point in a rather intimidating manner. His tournament run came to an abrupt end in seventh place though.
The official final table bubble boy was local player Daniel Neilson. He picked up an Ad, 9d and he decided to trust his tournament life to this starting hand. Unfortunately for him however, Niklas Heinecker woke up with pocket Kings and he made the no-brainer call. The board brought a bunch of blanks and Neilson was out.
