2013 Aussie Millions – Andrew Robl Wins $100k Challenge

Things weren’t looking particularly bright for Andrew Robl a couple of days ago: he had just become the week’s biggest online poker cash game loser, and he got bounced from the Aussie Millions’ $100k Challenge relatively early. He then made a decision which would completely turn the tide, eventually landing him the High Roller title. Unlike Patrik Antonious, who was eliminated from the event too but decided not to re-buy, Robl opted to put more money onto the line, taking advantage of the re-buy possibility and he swung right back into the fray. The decision proved to be a magnificent one, and, although not without a few close calls, it eventually landed Robl the title, together with the $1 million top prize.
Robl started the final table with the shortest stack, and with the odds piled sky-high against him.

The final table was rife with talent, so Robl had plenty of obstacles to navigate around on his way to the top. With 7 players returning for the final stretch of the poker tournament, three had to go home empty handed as the money-bubble was set for 4th place. The bubble-boy of the event was Niklas Heinecker who fell to start of the day chip leader Masa Kagawa in 5th place. Dan Shak appeared unstoppable on Day 1 of the event, but on Day 2, he ran out of gas in 4th place. The one busting him was Robl himself. Shak picked up a min-cash of $237k. Robl didn’t stop there. His next victim was Kagawa, whom he eliminated in 3rd place. Kagawa picked up $320k for his efforts.
Robl bested Igor Kurganov heads-up. The $100k Challenge title is Robl’s first ever major poker title. He said he was going to have a drink to celebrate the accomplishment.
