2013 Aussie Millions – Day 1C Report

The third Day 1 flight of the Aussie Millions Main Event drew the largest field of participants – as expected. The first day 1 flight’s yield was 157 players, to which the second day added 196. Day 1C saw 269 players belly up to the tables. Despite the fact that Day 1C was indeed the last day 1 flight, the official totals concerning the number of participants and the prize-pool haven’t been released yet, because registration remains open till the beginning of Day 2.
A total of 7 levels of action went into Day 1C, at the end of which a well-known figure surfaced as the chip leader: Patrik Antonius.
Like true poker royalty, Antonius showed up late. He entered the
poker tournament during level 4 but he wasted no time in chipping up: he doubled up almost straight away. He kept the pedal to the metal and a little while later, he scored another major pot from Bruno Portaro. He didn’t frolic around too much after that, but he came alive again during the closing hands of the day, when he shot straight to the chip lead.
As Antonius thrived, others had a really tough time at the tables. Shane Warne for instance bit the dust during the 5th level. Masa Kagawa, the Japanese who pulled off a pretty deep run in the $100k high roller, was eliminated as well. He was joined on the rail by John Juanda, Tony Hachem, Brendon Rubie and Gus Hansen, who yet again fell well short of the mark.
Sam Trickett on the other hand survived the day. It is also worth to point out that Trickett finished the same event in 12th place last year. Phil Ivey made the cut as well. Jesse Sylvia and Paul Phua will also return to action.
