68 players returned to the tables of the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event on the third day of action. Among them were heavy hitters like Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey, two players who had actually shared a table for a while on Day 2 of the
poker tournament. Day 3 carried special significance, since it was the day which would see the money bubble – set for 64th place – burst. Obviously, the immediate goal of everyone who returned was to make it past the bubble.
The first victim of the day was Michael Kane, who got busted by Phil Ivey.
Online poker qualifier Zoltan Szabo bit the dust before the bubble as well, on a pretty cruel bad beat: he got his chips into the middle on pocket Ks and got called by Jan Collado who had 5d, 4d. Collado then proceeded to hit a runner-runner straight to win the pot and to send Szabo home with nothing to show for his efforts.
Despite these bad beat stories, the player whose elimination was the most painful was local boy Gary Benson, who became the official bubble-boy of the event. The one busting him was Phil Ivey. Benson got his last chips into the middle with pocket 10s, and he got called by Ivey who had pocket Js. The Js held and the bubble was history.
In the wake of the bubble, the rate of eliminations gathered some much-needed momentum. It was during this stage that Craig McCorkell, David Boyaciyan, and Michael Harrison-Ford fell. They were followed to the rail by Tyron Krost, who lost his tournament life during the 17th level. Frank Rusnak and David Neilson were eliminated as well.
The end of the day chip lead went to Ray Ellis, who has Patrik Antonius breathing down his neck.
