As the $250k Challenge unfolded Down Under, the Main Event played on as well, reaching its 7-handed final table on Friday. The player who took the chip lead going into the final stretch is Dan Shak, who has thus far had a pretty phenomenal Aussie Millions. Shak finished the day with more than 3.7 million chips in his stack. Shak is definitely not a stranger to Aussie Millions High Rollers: back in 2010, he won the $100k Challenge. Patrik Antonius finished the day with a large stack as well: he had 3.3 million chips bagged. In this
poker tournament, Antonius, who is a prominent nosebleed stakes
online poker player and has a few noteworthy live tournament achievements under his belt as well, is looking to score his biggest ever live tournament cash.
Other players who did well on the penultimate day were Jarrod Glennon (finished with 3.6 million chips) and Mervin Chan (2.9 million).
Joseph Cabret and David Jan bring up the rear of the final table, while the official short-stack is Jay Tan.
As the 4th day of action kicked off, things pretty much froze to a stand-still. It took nearly an hour for local player Stevan Chew to hit the rail. Mervin Chan was the one responsible for breaking the ice. After the first bust, eliminations started to trickle.
Scott Wilson and Lee Markholt were eliminated next. As the field barreled down towards the final table, Phil Ivey came under considerable pressure as well. His best Aussie Millions Main Event has thus far been a 12th place, clinched last year. His record would remain standing: he got busted by James Obst on a pocket 7s vs pocket 6s match-up.
The official final table bubble-girl was Sam Cohen, busted by Shak on the final hand of the day.
