2013 Aussie Millions Main Event – Mervin Chan Wins

The 8th day of the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event, saw seven players return out of an initial starting field of 629. Dan Shak was the player who held a massive chip lead at the beginning of the final table hostilities, however he would not be able to turn his advantage into a victory this time around. The eventual winner of the poker tournament was Malaysia's Mervin Chan, who walked away with the best-regarded live poker title of the Southern Hemisphere, complemented by a Chrysler 300 C car as well as a $1.6 million top prize.
The first player to bite the dust from the final table was Jay Tan, who picked up $150,000 for her efforts. The one responsible for her demise was none other than poker pro Patrik Antonius, whose pocket Kings made short work of Tan’s A,Qo.
She was followed to the rail by David Yan, who was rewarded with $220,000 for his sixth place.

The next player to have his tournament life ended was Jarrod Glennon. Glennon picked up $290,000 for his fifth place. He was followed to the rail by none other than the start of the day chip leader, Dan Shak. Shak’s A,6o fell to Cabret’s A,Ko in his final hand. Having finished fourth, Shak picked up a $400,000 prize. His elimination left one high-profile contender in the game. Patrik Antonius however bowed out in third place to set up the heads-up stage of the match between Chan and Joseph Cabret. Antonius's reward for sticking it out this long was a $600,000 chunk of change.
The heads-up stage of the event was rather disappointing one in that it was extremely short: it only took Chan a few hands to dispose of his opponent and to clinch the victory. Cabret picked up exactly $1 million for second place.
