2013 Aussie Millions – Trickett Wins $250k Challenge

The $250k Challenge of the 2013 Aussie Millions started out with just 18 participants, but they all represented the crème of the professional poker world. After just two days of action, the field played down to a winner: Sam Trickett, the winner of the Aussie Millions’ 2011 $100k Challenge, was the one who clinched the honors, together with the $2 million top prize.
Trickett’s ride to the top was not a smooth one: he started the final table of the poker tournament with the shortest stack, but he managed to secure an early double-up from the start of the day chip leader, Tobias Reinkemeier.
The final table started out with 7 players. Unlike in regular events however, where making the final table is pretty much a guarantee for a large prize, three of the seven players who returned for the home stretch would have to go home empty-handed.

Richard Yong was the first player who bit the dust. He ran his A,Qo into Igor Kurganov’s A,Ko for the bust. He was followed to the rail by Erik Seidel, the winner of many a similar High Roller event last year. This time, Seidel had to walk away with nothing to show for his efforts.
The official bubble-boy of the event was Winfred Yu, who busted at the hands of Kurganov.
The first player to land in the money, taking down the $500k min-cash, was Igor Kurganov. He has made a J-high flush and staked his tournament life on it, only to run head-first into Sam Trickett’s straight flush.
Fabian Quoss busted out next, picking up $750k for his 3rd place. His elimination set up the heads-up stage of the event. The last hand of the tournament saw Trickett’s A,5 best Reinkemeier’s K,2o.
