2013 PCA Super High Roller – Scott Seiver Wins

The first event of the 2013 PCA, the $100k Super High Roller, is in the books and its winner is Scott Seiver, who defeated start of the day chip leader David Sands heads-up.
At the beginning of the final table action, it looked like no one would ever be able to stop Sands. He had such a massive stack built up that none of the surviving competitors came even close to it. Still, in the end, with a little bit of help from Lady Luck, Seiver was the one who had his hands raised in victory. As he put it, it’s quite easy to overcome the odds when one gets dealt aces after aces and the competition is eager to toss everything into the middle.
The final table got off to quite a start indeed. The first 7 hands of action claimed the tournament lives on no fewer than 3 players. Dan Shak may have made it to the heads-up stage in this same poker tournament last year, but this year he would fall well short of matching that performance: he was the first one to bite the dust at the final table. He was followed to the rail by Vladimir Troyanovsky and Greg Jensen.

After that initial flare-up, things settled down a bit. Philipp Gruissem was the chip leader at the end of the first day of action. He got his chips into the middle on an A,8o and he got called by Seiver who had Ks, Qs. The board gave Seiver a pair of Qs and Gruissem was out.
Cary Katz was the one who followed him to the rail. Nick Schulman’s run ended in 3rd place eventually. Sands still had a massive lead when the heads-up stage started but Seiver soon caught up. The final hand of the event saw Seiver’s A,7o beat Sands’ K,4o.
