2013 Poker HoF Finalists Announced

Every year, one or two new players are induced into the Poker Hall of Fame by a special Governing Council, which has already determined the 10 players to be considered for this year’s honors.
The panel that will eventually make the decision consists of 19 living Hall of Fame members as well as 18 media people, and the factors taken into account will be diverse. Those who do not fulfill the eligibility criteria are obviously not even considered. First off, a potential HoF member needs to have played against top-notch competition, and he definitely cannot be a greenhorn: he needs to be at least 40 years old at the time of the nomination.
The future HoF member will be a player who has played high stakes, doing consistently well. He has to be a respected member of the community and he needs to have been around for a while. Of course, non-players may also be considered, but in order to make it, such people need to have an extremely solid resume of contributions to the growth and promotion of the game.

Six players of this year’s 10-nominee field were already nominated last year too: Gus Hansen would definitely deserve to be inducted, Scotty Nguyen (the same goes for him), Jennifer Harman, David Chiu, Chris Bjorin and Tom McEvoy. The other 4 nominees are Humberto Brenes, Thor Hansen, Carlos Mortensen and Huck Seed.

The Poker Hall of Fame currently has 44 members. Established back in 1979, the HoF ended up in possession of Harrah’s Entertainment, after the latter acquired the WSOP in 2004. The two newest HoF members are Sailor Roberts and Eric Drache, both inducted last year.
This year’s inductees will be honored at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, with the occasion of the WSOP’s Main Event Final Table showdown.
