2013 WPT Grand Prix de Paris – Mohsin Charania Wins

The WPT’s 2013 Grand Prix de Paris has finally wrapped up, after 5 grueling days of poker, and the player who picked up the prize and the massive trophy was Mohsin Charania. The well-known poker pro may have started the home straight of the poker tournament with a chip disadvantage, but he managed to prevail nonetheless, picking up the $469.4k top prize, not making any sort of deals with anyone on his way to the top.
Indeed, at the beginning of the last day of action, every one of the survivors was at a massive disadvantage when compared to start of the day chip leader Vasili Firsau: Firsau had a truly daunting lead, and he added to his advantage by drawing first blood at the final table. The first player to bite the dust was Kimmo Kurko, who had started the day as the short stack and who had managed to double up twice putting off his elimination before Firsau swooped in for the kill.
Eventually, Kurko’s final hand saw his A,Qo go up against Firsau’s pocket Js in a losing effort. Kurko picked up $90.8k for his 6th place.

Christina Lindley was the next victim of the final table. Sent packing by Firsau’s pocket rockets, Lindley’s 5th place was worth $113.6k. Elliott Smith was bounced next. He picked up $151.3k for his 4th place.
The next player to head to the rail, setting up the heads-up stage of the event through his elimination, was Peter Apostolou. He was bounced by Firsau too, after his pocket Qs fell to the latter’s Ac, Kc.

At the start of the heads-up bout, Firsau had a 7-1 chip advantage over Charania. The latter fought back valiantly though, evening the match and eventually scoring the KO with pocket 10s against Firsau’s A,Qo. Firsau was rewarded with $317.8k for his efforts.
