The WPT’s Lucky Hearts Open played down to a winner on Tuesday in Hollywood, Florida. The player who walked away with the title and the first place prize of $323.8k was Matt Giannetti, who thusly scored his second career WPT title. 6 players returned to the tables on the last day of the
poker tournament, fairly sure that a winner would be determined by the end of the day.
The first victim of the final table was Matt Salsberg, who got his money in good with pocket Js against Darryll Fish’s 5s, 7s. The board gave the latter a straight though, and thus Salsberg was forced to settle for the $50.9k that his 6th place finish brought him.
The next player to bite the dust was Hayden Fortini. Fortini pushed his last chips into the pot on a relatively solid two pair against Danny Shiff’s top pair. Two tens fell on the turn and the river, counterfeiting Fortini’s hand and handing the pot to Shiff. A few hands later, the crippled Fortini was ushered out by Lily Kiletto.
The next player to go was Shiff himself. The one responsible for his demise was Kiletto, whose two pair got the better of Shiff’s open-ended straight draw. Shiff picked up $88.9k for his 4th place.
The heads-up stage of the action was set when Darryll Fish was ejected in 3rd place. Fish dropped a massive pot to Kiletto first, and then got pounded by Giannetti, who managed to rid the final table of his presence. Fish picked up $125.9k for his 3rd place.
Giannetti held a pretty decent lead over Kiletto when the heads-up action began, and he took full advantage of it. It only took him 7 hands to get his opponent all-in, and to take the final pot of the event.
