2013 WSOP - $50k Poker Players’ Championship Rages on

The second day of the $50k Poker Players’ Championship (#55 of the
2013 WSOP) was at least as interesting as the first one. The beginning of the day saw no fewer than 9 players take advantage of the late registration option. The last registrants set the record straight as far as the final numbers of the event were concerned: a total of 132 players coughed up the $50k buy-in this year, creating a starting field 24 players larger than last year’s. The resulting prize-pool was $6,336,000, which means that the eventual winner will take home a $1,774,089 top prize. At the end of the day, 78 players were left standing, with some of the biggest names sent home empty-handed. Indeed, Phil Ivey was one of victims of Day 2, together with Michael Mizrachi and Phil Hellmuth. The player who managed to amass the most chips by the end of the day was French pro David Benyamine, who had 729k chips bagged.
At the beginning of the day, all eyes were of course on Michael Mizrachi, the winner of the two previous editions of the same event and thus the title-defender. Unfortunately for him and disappointingly for everyone else, Mizrachi met the end of his
poker tournament life during the 9th level of action, in a NL Holdem round. The one responsible for his elimination was Cole South who made a club flush against the Grinder’s Broadway straight.
David Baker failed to make it through the day too. Others who fell by the side were: Gus Hansen, Mike Sexton, Phil Galfond,
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow and Randy Ohel.
Jonathan Duhamel on the other hand had a successful day: he finished with 666.1k chips. He will be joined on Day 3 by Bertrand Grospellier, Justin Bonomo and Brian Rast among others.
The way to qualify to the 2013 WSOP Main Event is through PokerStars.
