2013 WSOP – Ben Volpe Wins Event #45

Event #45 of the
2013 WSOP – the $1.5k Ante Only NL Holdem one – went into the books about an hour ago and its winner is Ben Volpe. Volpe walked away with the bracelet and a $201.3k prize, after a marathon final table and heads-up session, which saw him best start of the day chip leader Paul Lieu for the win.
9 players returned at the beginning of the final day of action, and Samuel Panzica had the shortest stack. Under pressure to get something going early, he pushed all-in with an A,Jo, only to be called by Paul Lieu who had an A,Q and a large stack to back it all up. Panzica was bounced in 9th place. He was followed to the rail by Daniel Johnson, who got his last chips in on a 4-card flush, but he failed to get there and Blair Hinkle took advantage of the situation, sending him packing in 8th spot.
Adam Stone and Horacio Chavez were the next two eliminations. Chris Moorman followed them to the sidelines in 5th place, picking up $44.2k for his efforts. Moorman was bounced by Lieu who at this point looked like the dominant force at the table.
Blair Hinkle was the next one to get a taste of the rail, sent packing by the same Lieu again, with a consolation prize of $59.3k.
Louis Bonnecaze’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event between Lieu and the eventual winner, Volpe. Bonnecaze took home $80.8k for his 3rd place.
Volpe was the one who bounced Bonnecaze and as a result of that, he began the heads-up stage with a 2-1 chip advantage. Lieu fought back though and at one point he had Volpe nearly eliminated. Eventually, the pendulum swung back Volpe’s way though and he found a way to put an end to the tournament.
