2013 WSOP – Cliff Josephy Wins Event #9

About 2 hours ago, the $3k NL Holdem Shootout - #9 of the 2013 WSOP played down to its winner: Cliff Josephy was the one who walked away with the goods: a gold bracelet and the $299.4k top prize. The event had 477 players belly up to its tables on its first day. Only 10 players returned on the 3rd day of the poker tournament to play down to a winner, but the final 10 included no fewer than 3 bracelet winners, so it became obvious from the get go that the eventual winner wouldn’t find the final table a walk in the park.
The fact that it was a shootout event meant that all final table participants would start with similar-size stacks.
Simeon Naydenov got going on the right foot and he took over the lead briefly, before beginning to bleed chips away and drop down towards elimination. He was the first player to bite the dust, picking up $18.6k for his 10th place.
He was followed to the rail by Ryan Hughes, who pocketed $23.7k for his efforts. The next player to head to the sidelines was Chris Klodnicki, whose 8th spot was worth $30.6k.

Max Steinberg was the next player to bite the dust. He was followed to the rail by David Baker and Alessandro Longobardi. Tim West’s elimination in 4th place left the remainder of the field in 6-figure territory. The first player to take down a $100k+ prize was Steve Silverman, whose 3rd place efforts were rewarded with $123.2k.
The last hand of the heads-up stage of the event was hand $217, which saw Evan Silverstein’s K,10o go up against Josephy’s A,2o in a losing effort. The flop did give Silverstein an open-ended straight draw, but the turn and the river did him in.
