2013 WSOP – Daniel Idema Wins Event #39

Event #39 of the 2013 WSOP, the $1.5k Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or better one, played down to its winner less than an hour ago. The player who grabbed the bracelet, together with the $184.5k prize, was well-known poker pro Daniel Idema.
The last day of the poker tournament saw 17 survivors of the initial starting field of 558, belly up to the tables. Idema bested Joseph Hertzog at the end of a marathon heads-up bout, which lasted more than an hour and a half.

The very first victim of Day 3 was none other than Kristy Gazes, a renowned mixed games specialist who had the eyes of the press on her when the action kicked off. She was sent to the rail in 17th place, followed soon by one of the other “name” competitors who had made it into the final day: Layne Flack. Flack was bounced in 15th place. With Flack gone, the official final table wasn’t far away. Hall of Famer Linda Johnson busted on the final table bubble heading home in 9th place.
Artie Cobb, the renowned Stud buff was the first one to see his tournament life expire at the final table. Joseph Hertzog was the one who bounced him, after he made a wheel.
Mike Leah made it all the way to 5th place, but he too was eventually forced to admit defeat. Matt Vengrin bit the dust too: he was sent packing in 4th place. Paul Raez had the chip lead when the 3-handed stage of the action commenced, however, Hertzog pulled a fast one on him through a bluff and he never managed to recover. He was eliminated in 3rd place eventually.

On the 301st hand of the final table, Idema eliminated Hertzog too for the win. Hertzog was rewarded with $114.1k for his efforts.
PokerStars is the place to qualify online for the 2013 WSOP Main Event.
