The 17th day of the
2013 WSOP saw another bracelet find its owner. Event #23, the $2.5k Seven-Card Stud one, played down to its winner, awarding its $145.5k top prize to David Chiu. Chiu bested an initial starting field of 246 players, working his way to the top through some pretty notorious opponents.
He defeated none other than Scott Seiver heads-up, denying the latter a second WSOP bracelet.
The final (third) day of the
poker tournament saw 10 players return to the tables, looking to first play down to the official 8-handed final table and then all the way to a winner. Jesse Martin, one of the previous chip leaders, was eliminated first, followed to the rail by Helmut Koch in 9th place. Koch’s elimination set the official final table.
Those remaining at that point were pretty much Stud specialists through and through, so the action would definitely heat up quite a bit. The first victim of the final table was Adam Friedman, who picked up $14k for his 8th place. He was followed to the rail by Matthew Ashton, his share of the prize-pool tipping the scale at $18.2k.
Gary Benson was eliminated next, before Frank Kassela bit the dust too, in 5th place. Kassela’s elimination signaled the beginning of a spree which would see a total of 3 hard-hitters bite the dust, including Scott Seiver. Kassela picked up $31.9k for his 5th place.
Michael Mizrachi, The Grinder, was the next player to lose his tournament life. He was rewarded with $43.1k for his run.
78-year old Freddie Ellis had put together a fabulous run as well, but his elimination in 3rd place signaled the beginning of the heads-up stage. The heads-up bout began on relatively even footings, but eventually Chiu managed to shoot out for a lead and he never looked back.
Playing in PokerStars’ WSOP 2013 online qualifiers still makes quite a bit of sense.
