2013 WSOP – Davidi Kitai Wins Event #19

A little over an hour ago, event #19 of the
2013 WSOP, the $5k PL Holdem one, crowned its winner in Davidi Kitai. Kitai bested an initial starting field of 195 players to claim the bracelet and the $224.5k prize that came with it. This bracelet is Kitai’s second: his first one came in a $2k PL Holdem event too, which kind of makes him a PL Holdem specialist.
When the final day of the
poker tournament kicked off, 16 players returned to the tables, with Jesse Martin in the lead. All eyes were on Dan Kelly though, who had already racked up quite a few deep runs at this year’s Series, without being able to go all the way. His bracelet wouldn’t come in this event either: he bit the dust in 12th place, well outside the final table. Jesse Martin, the start of the day chip leader, met a rather similar fate: he failed to get anything going during the final day of action and he was eventually eliminated in 10th place.
At the start of what would turn out to be an extremely brief final table, Kitai already had the lead. Dario Minieri and
PokerStars pros Eugene Katchalov and Bertrand Grospellier had made the final stretch too.
Of the “name” players, Minieri was the first one to bite the dust: he picked up $26.4k for his 8th place. Bertrand Grospellier followed him to the rail in 7th, taking home $34.3k. Eugene Katchalov on the other hand made it all the way to 5th place before succumbing. His share of the prize-pool was $58.9k. Dimitar Danchev busted in 4th.
The heads-up stage of the event saw Kitai square off with Cary Katz of the US. The final hand of the tournament saw Kitai’s Js best Katz’s pocket Ks.
