2013 WSOP – Day 2 of Event #39 Completed

The second day of the $1.5k Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Eight or Better event, #39 of the
2013 WSOP, saw its original starting field of 558 play down to the final 17 a few hours ago. At the end of the second day of action, the player with the biggest stack was Matt Vengrin, who had 504.5k chips bagged. Vengrin’s lead turned out to be quite an impressive one indeed: not only was he the only player to manage to climb past the half million chip mark, the next biggest stack isn’t even half the size of his.
Event #39 had its fair share of notables too: Daniel Idema and Mike Leah both played on Day 2 and what’s more important: they both managed to survive. Kristy Gazes, the true mixed games specialist, and Layne Flack were among the survivors as well.
The day kicked off with 155 players and the immediate objective on everyone’s mind was the money bubble. Set for 57th place, the bubble burst with the elimination of David Levi. Scores of high profile players fell before the bubble: Dario Minieri was among them, together with Phil Ivey and Tom Schneider.
Following the bursting of the money bubble, the action gathered quite a bit of momentum. Players began hitting the rail left and right and the attrition did not spare the “name” competitors either. Phil Hellmuth, the Poker Brat, bit the dust in 42nd place. He was followed to the rail by David Baker in 38th and by
PokerStars pro Jason Mercier in 36th.
Barry Greenstein did quite a bit better, but he failed to make the cut too: he busted out in 21st place.
Layne Flack locked horns with Vengrin in one of the last hands of the day and he was left crippled.
