2013 WSOP – Day 2 of Event #41 Completed

The second day of the $5k PLO six-handed event of the 2013 WSOP (#41) wrapped up today, and after a day of exciting short-handed action, Steve Gross grabbed the chip lead with 526k chips to his name. The beginning of day 2 saw 177 players return to the tables, with Sorel Mizzi holding the largest stack. Mizzi’s reign at the top didn’t last long though: he was quickly overtaken by Ville Matilla. The action flared up in the beginning but as the money bubble began drawing near things quieted down a bit. In the end, it was Michel Abecassis who took on the unenviable role of bubble-boy, biting the dust in 43rd place and leaving all the other survivors square in the money.

The dinner-break put the brakes on the massacre that was about to kick off with the bubble out of the way, but as soon as the action was re-started, the eliminations began flowing again. Chad Brown was bounced in 39th place, followed to the rail by Dan Smith in 38th, Tony Cousineau in 37th and Juha Helppi in 36th. PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu was eliminated as well, in 34th place. Others who were bounced during this stage were Scott Bohlman, and Jamie Pickering.

Jesse Rockowitz had an excellent day. Although he spent the first half of the day buried in the field, he shot to the top late in the day. He ended up in second place eventually, right behind Steve Gross, with 476k chips to his name.
A total of 22 players survived the Day 2 attrition, and among them there were quite a few pros indeed. Salman Behbehani finished 3rd, as Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Sorel Mizzi and Tony Gargano made the cut as well. The official short stack is Roland Israelashvili.
