2013 WSOP – Day 2 of Event #53 is in the Books

Another $1.5k NL Holdem event, #53 of the 2013 WSOP saw its second day go into the books today. The beginning of the day saw 320 players belly up to the tables. By the end of the green felt hostilities, only 25 remained standing. With the money bubble set for 297th place, the day began on a rather chilly note. The action was slow but despite that, the bubble burst during the first level. With the bubble out of the way, the eliminations picked up again. Quite a number of notables were sent packing during this stage. Paul Volpe was one of these notables. He was joined on the rail by Faraz Jaka, Kevin Iacofano, Matt Waxman and Chris Moorman. Barry Greenstein fell outside of the top 100 as well, but Harrison Gimbel managed to make it: he was bounced in 79th place.

Matthias de Meulder was one of the deepest finishing pros: he made it all the way to 31st place. Brett Hanks didn’t do much worse either: he finished 38th. The 25 survivors will return on what will probably turn out to be the last day of the event knowing that they’re guaranteed a $19k payday. The first prize is a massive $665.4k one though, and we’re quite certain that each and every one of the Day 2 survivors is aiming for nothing less than the top spot.
Canada’s Jonathan Cohen finished Day 2 with the largest stack: he had 1.37 million chips bagged. He was the only one who managed to climb into 7-figure territory though.
Plenty of notables finished with healthy stacks however: Mike Watson had 707k chips bagged while David Wamplew finished with 697 chips to his name. Tyron Krost is among the front runners too, together with Derek Dempsey.

Play at Full Tilt Poker and qualify for the 2013 WSOP Main Event for little more than pocket change.
