2013 WSOP – Day 2 of Event #54 is in the Books

Event #54, another $1k NL Holdem affair, saw its second day go into the books earlier today. The day was indeed an action-filled one from the get-go, even though in the beginning, there was a little bit of a dry-spell eliminations-wise. Soon, inhibitions were shed around the tables though and players began dropping like flies, left and right, “name” competitors as well as members of the rank and file crowd. Erik Seidel fell during this early period of jostling, together with Kathy Liebert, JC Tran and Russel Crane. Other players did well during the early going, shooting to the top and then falling back into the field. One such player was Matt Weber, who worked his way to the top of the chip counts early, only to find himself on the rail with about three tables remaining.
Matt Salsberg walked the same walk: he too made it to the top at one point, only to completely fade away after the dinner-break. Together with Salsberg, Amanda Musumeci found the sidelines as well. Others who joined them were Jesse Sylvia and Warwick Mirzikinian.

With all the ups and downs, Weber’s story was by far the most captivating one of the day. Right after the dinner break, he had about $700k chips to his name, a stack which at that point made him the chip leader. From that point on though, it was all downhill for him. First, he donated a substantial amount of chips to Barry Hutter, who would go on to finish the day with the largest stack. Then, he gave some more of his chips to Dana Castaneda and then he got bounced by Michael Zucchet. A total of 14 players have had their Day 3 tickets punched.
